Smart Diet to eliminate acne

Smart Diet to eliminate acne
There are so many causes of acne, but diet may play a major role. I was going to write about Diet smart to get rid of acne. An article published in 2009 in the International Journal of Dermatology showed that there was no conclusive relationship between chocolate and acne.

The same article suggests that the typical American diet may be one cause of acne. Mentioned foods that have a high glycemic index, such as refined flour and sugar, and which has a lot of omega-6 fatty acids, such as vegetable oils, meat and eggs, is associated with an increase in acne.

Foods that have a high glycemic index digest quickly and release the explosion of glucose (sugar) into the blood. The researchers believe that high blood glucose levels can increase oil production (sebum), and increased levels of hormones such as testosterone, which can contribute to acne.

Foods that contain omega-6 fatty acids, known precursors of inflammation, were also associated with acne. Different fatty acids than omega-3 fatty acids, high levels have been shown to reduce the risk of acne by reducing sebum production.

Milk can also encourage the growth of acne. Myhealthnewsdaily*com launch an article published in the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology. Researchers evaluated data from more than 47,000 women and found an association between milk consumption and increased acne. The authors write that they are probably due to hormones or other molecules found in milk.

So, now we know what may cause acne, there are four things we can do about it:
  1. Replace white bread and pasta with whole wheat version, which has a lower glycemic index.
  2. Reduce your intake of processed foods. Processed foods often contain lots of vegetable oils and omega-6 fatty acids.
  3. Eating omega-3-rich more foods, like sardines, flaxseed and walnuts. If it is not an option, consider omega-3 supplements.
  4. Reduce your consumption of dairy products. Consider trying a substitute for milk, like almond or rice milk, and avoid the cheese.
